Ordinarily, a pregnancy happens in the womb or the uterus, where the fertilised egg or embryo burrows or implants, much like a seed, into the walls of the uterus.
Sadly in some cases the fertilised egg implants outside of the womb, typically the fallopian tubes, but can really be any supporting tissue outside of the uterus. It could also be that the embryo has impanted in an unknown or unidentified area. In each of these scenarios, this is very dangerous and can cause death as these parts of the body are not intended for baby growth.
It is important that early pregnancies seek appropriate medical care and attention to ensure that the pregnancy is growing as intended.
Sadly, with egg donations, etopic pregnancies can somestimes result. Unfortunately this pregnancy needs to be terminated to safeguard the mom.
