The day I received the request to be a donor was one of the most amazing days of my life.
Being a mom myself, I know how great the gift of life and having a baby is. I was honoured to be given the chance to help someone have this great experience. With hubby’s full support, we started the process. From the first meeting with the clinic to the day of the retrieval I was met with great support and could feel how much this would mean to my recipients in the end.
The first stage was quite simple, as it only involved getting our cycles linked and that just meant taking the pills the doctor gave. When it was time to start prepping the eggs for retrieval and I started the injections (which are not sore), things became more real and my sense of purpose in this whole scenario fully hit me – I was going to be part of a small miracle!
With no side effects other than a slightly bloated stomach and minor cramping (almost the same as “that time of the month” pains), the day of the retrieval finally came. I was excited and emotional knowing this could be the changing point for a family. The retrieval itself was quick and painless. I was back to my normal self (after the anaesthetic wore off) that same afternoon.
Being able to be part of something so special and amazing has been an honour and baby2mom is absolutely great, helpful – always available for even the simplest of questions or concerns. Thank you for what you are doing.
